OPINION: Opposition renewal matters too — Eugene K.B. Tan

The PAP tends to have new candidates who are very well educated, professionally successful and younger. In short, the PAP slate is quite predictable given that its preference for technocrats persists.
In contrast, as the new opposition candidates hail from a variety of and unconventional backgrounds, they are more likely than not to have a “rough edge”. One can detect a certain bravado and boldness in them.
The public sees them as more “interesting”, as their perceived motivations for entering politics are somewhat different from the PAP’s rookies — although all PAP and opposition candidates alike will declare their aim of serving the people and contributing to society. Full story
